Honey: An Effective Cough Remedy

It’s been proven that honey when mixed with tea or warm lemon water can be good to remedy sore throat. Recent studies have shown that honey can also be effective in suppressing coughs.

A study was conducted in 2007 testing children aged 2 and above. The children were suffering from respiratory tract infections. They were given 2 teaspoons of honey before going to sleep. Results showed that honey reduced coughing and also made the children sleep better. The study showed that honey can be as effective as over the counter medicines for cough.

Take note that coughing in itself is not bad. It is a way for the body to remove mucus from the air passages. For most individuals, suppressing a cough isn’t really necessary.

If you really need to suppress coughs and prefer natural remedies, a couple teaspoons of honey will do the trick.

Note: Avoid giving babies aged 1 and below honey to avoid infant botulism.

Coughs can be treated with cough medicines. Some home remedy which is really a good cough remedy is to take 2 tablespoons of honey and mix it in one cup of orange juice and drink it.
