What is Alcoholism?

Alcoholism, simply put, is dependence on alcohol. What’s not simple is the effects it has on relationships, productive living, managing of finances, etc. When you can no longer control how much and how often you drink, it may be time to ask yourself if you are now an alcoholic.

Not entirely different and can also be quite as damaging is alcohol abuse. This is when you’re not totally dependent on alcohol and you don’t display all the signs of alcoholism. However, alcohol abuse could lead to health conditions and social problems.

What most people don’t know is that alcoholism is a disease, hence it can be treated. The most effective recovery methods available include medication, self-help groups, and counseling.
