Alcoholism: Is it time to consult a doctor?

One of my pet peeves is that you have to acknowledge that there’s a problem first before you can fix it. Same applies for those who are alcohol abusers or alcohol dependents. Very few will seek treatment or testing on their own. Family, friends and co-workers are often the ones to encourage the alcoholic or alcohol abuser to do something about it.
Somewhere deep inside the alcohol abuser or alcohol dependent, he or she knows that there is a problem. You probably need to talk to a doctor if you feel shame about your drinking that you have to hide it. If you find yourself having difficulty controlling your drinking, it might be time to consult your doctor. Talk to your doctor if you feel the urge to drink just after waking up or if you need to drink more and more before you start to feel intoxicated.
